The Collaborative Piano Institute is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a grant from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council — an exciting recognition that will help CPI continue expanding its impact as a national leader in music education, performance, and community engagement.
This support marks a meaningful milestone for CPI and the artists, students, faculty, and audiences who are part of its growing community. The grant will help CPI further its mission to advance the art of collaboration by providing exceptional training, mentorship, and performance opportunities for pianists, vocalists, instrumentalists, and composers.
What Is the Collaborative Piano Institute?
The Collaborative Piano Institute, or CPI as is commonly known, is an organization dedicated to the art of collaborative piano — a field that places pianists at the center of musical partnership. Collaborative pianists work closely with singers, instrumentalists, conductors, composers, and ensembles, shaping performances through deep musical communication and shared artistry.
Through intensive educational programs, concerts, masterclasses, and professional development opportunities, CPI supports emerging and established artists as they grow their skills and deepen their understanding of collaboration. CPI’s work celebrates the pianist not simply as an accompanist, but as an equal artistic partner whose creativity, sensitivity, and leadership are essential to the musical experience.
What Is the Michigan Arts and Culture Council?
The Michigan Arts and Culture Council or MACC, is a statewide organization that supports arts and cultural activity across Michigan. MACC invests in artists, cultural organizations, educational programs, and community initiatives that enrich the lives of Michigan residents and strengthen the state’s creative landscape.
Receiving support from MACC is both an honor and an affirmation of CPI’s role in Michigan’s vibrant arts ecosystem. This grant recognizes the importance of collaborative music-making and the value of creating meaningful artistic experiences for students, professionals, and audiences alike.
This grant will help CPI continue doing what it does best: creating transformative opportunities for collaborative pianists and the musicians who work with them.
With MACC’s support, CPI will be able to strengthen its programming, broaden access to high-level artistic training, and continue presenting performances and educational experiences that inspire both participants and audiences. The grant will help CPI support the next generation of collaborative pianists through mentorship, artistic exchange, and hands-on learning with distinguished faculty and guest artists.
Just as importantly, this funding will help CPI share the beauty and importance of collaborative piano with a wider community. Collaborative music-making is built on listening, trust, flexibility, and imagination — values that extend far beyond the concert stage. By supporting CPI, MACC is helping foster a musical environment where partnership and creativity can flourish.
A Joyful Step Forward
CPI is deeply grateful to the Michigan Arts and Culture Council for this generous support. This grant is more than funding; it is encouragement, momentum, and a powerful vote of confidence in CPI’s mission and future.
As CPI continues to grow, this support will help ensure that more artists have access to meaningful training, more audiences experience the richness of collaborative performance, and more communities benefit from the shared power of music.
We are honored, energized, and absolutely delighted to celebrate this news!
Thank you to MACC for believing in the work of the Collaborative Piano Institute — and thank you to the CPI community for continuing to champion the art of collaboration.
Together, we are building a brighter future for musical collaboration!
